Product photography: shipping and packaging

The quality of a catalog image does not begin with the camera shutter, but with the physical condition of the product upon arrival at the studio. At Asterniva, we work with a wide variety of items, from delicate jewelry to larger e-commerce pieces, and we know that inadequate transport can compromise the final result due to scratches, deformations, or dust accumulation.

This guide aims to optimize the delivery logistics to our studio in Sevilla, ensuring that every piece arrives in pristine condition. Professional packaging reduces preparation time on set and prevents delays in the delivery of your final photographs.

Careful packaging process of a product for shipping to a photo studio.

The importance of preliminary cleaning

Before wrapping any object, it is essential to perform a surface cleaning. Although our post-production team performs professional retouching, removing coarse dust, fingerprints, or manufacturing residues greatly facilitates the workflow. We recommend the use of microfiber cloths and compressed air for the most difficult corners.

If the product is a unique sample or a prototype, ensure it does not have difficult-to-remove adhesive labels that may leave residue on the surface, as this could require the use of solvents that are not always compatible with all materials.

Packaging techniques by material

Not all products require the same protection. The key is to prevent internal movement within the shipping box. Below, we detail the recommendations based on the type of item:

  • Glossy or mirrored surfaces: These should be wrapped individually in acid-free tissue paper or small-bubble wrap to prevent friction between pieces.
  • Textiles and fashion: We recommend using transparent polypropylene bags to prevent the fabric from absorbing moisture or getting dirty during transit.
  • Fragile objects (glass, ceramics): Use the "double box" method, where the product is suspended in cushioning material and the inner box is placed inside a larger outer box.
  • Small products (jewelry): Use organizers with individual compartments to prevent pieces from mixing or scratching each other.

Inventory management and labeling

To avoid confusion in the studio, especially for high-volume e-commerce orders, it is imperative that each product is identified. A common mistake is sending similar products without a clear distinction, forcing the client to review photos one by one to identify the reference.

We suggest attaching a detailed packing list that includes the product name, SKU reference, and any specific observations regarding the preferred viewing angle or details that should be highlighted in the product photography.

Packaging Material Recommended Use Primary Objective
Tissue paper Delicate surfaces Avoid micro-scratches
Bubble wrap Fragile objects Impact cushioning
Sealed bags Clothing and accessories Dust protection
Expanded foam Heavy pieces Total immobilization

Shipping logistics to Sevilla

Our studio is located in the Casco Antiguo of Sevilla, an area with access restrictions for heavy vehicles. If you use national courier services, we recommend coordinating the delivery to avoid issues during unloading.

For local clients in Sevilla and surrounding areas, we offer the possibility of in-person delivery during our usual hours (Mon-Fri 10:00-19:00, Sat 10:00-14:00). This allows for a joint review of the condition of the pieces and more direct communication regarding the session goals.

Final checklist before shipping

Before closing the box and requesting the courier pickup, verify the following points to ensure the process is efficient:

  • [ ] Each product is clean and free of surface dust.
  • [ ] Glossy pieces are wrapped individually.
  • [ ] The interior of the box has no gaps where the product can shift.
  • [ ] The reference list (SKU) and the responsible contact person are included.
  • [ ] The outer box is sturdy and correctly sealed with industrial tape.
  • [ ] The proof of service request from Asterniva is attached.

Reception and return of products

Once the products are received at Asterniva, our production manager, José Torres Gutiérrez, verifies the condition of each piece. If we detect any damage resulting from transport, the client will be notified immediately before starting the session to decide whether to proceed with the photography or request a replacement.

After the session and retouching process are complete, the products are repacked with the same care. The client may choose to pick them up at the studio or request return shipping, the cost of which will be borne by the client, unless previously agreed upon in the budget.
